Floor is expensive; really expensive. For weeks, we've been ordering samples of all sorts wood, engineered, karndean, amtico... it's anything up to £80/square metre! Madness... We were fast running out of decent options and Grumpy was getting grumpier than ever. As a last ditch attempt, he went on eBay. Who buys a pub floor on eBay for crying out loud? Well, he found a bloke called Roger. Roger is doing up a house in Bournemouth. Roger is 75 at least. His advert said "£7/square metre, someone needs to buy it in the next week or it's going on the bonfire!" Grumpy didn't need to be asked twice. Roger sent a sample; it's bloody decent wood. Old. Laid with tar... that'll be fun to get off circa 5,500 individual bricks of wood! But no matter. A van was hired by the brother in Shropshire, picked up Grumpy in Bucks, jollied off down to the coast, spent several hours carrying 5,500 indivdual bricks into the van, drove back up to Bucks, emergency call to me, "Errrr, have you got any buckets or anythign? Can you help us unload in London as it'll take all night otherwise?" As if that's how i want to spend a Sunday evening! But obviously i did. Took nealry 2 hours to get round all the road works and new one ways in the City (we've not driven round the City since we move sdout of London pre=pandemic). Finally arrived 7pm ish. Worked like pit ponies for 2.5hours unloading the van as darkness fell. Drive back exhausted. Thank God we ha the foresight to put beers nad prosecco in our fridge for when we arrived home. We have floor!!!!
